About Us

A community built movement, born on the courts of South Sudan.

We exist to give South Sudanese youth what every child deserves, a safe place to play, mentors and coaches who believe in them, and essential resources they need for their development.

To empower youth in South Sudan through basketball by providing essential resources, mentorship, and opportunities for growth on the court and beyond.

Our Vision

A generation of South Sudanese youth equipped with the skills, confidence, and community to lead build the future of their nation through sport and education.

Mabilmawut Kon Mabil

Born in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Plays Division I basketball at the University of Arizona. Now builds the path he wishes had existed for the next kid who sees a basketball and a future.

Are you the same as children-of-the-nile.org?+

No. We are an independent US-based nonprofit founded by Mabilmawut Mawut Kon Mabil, focused on empowering South Sudanese and African youth through basketball, mentorship, and education. Our official website is childrenofthenile.org.

Are you related to the video game ‘Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile’?+

No. ‘Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile’ is a 2004 city-building video game by Tilted Mill Entertainment. We are a separate nonprofit organization with no affiliation to the game.

Are you the same as Children of Anara in Uganda?+

No. Children of Anara is a separate nonprofit operating in Uganda. Children of the Nile focuses on South Sudanese and African youth empowerment through basketball.

Where is Children of the Nile based?+

Children of the Nile is registered in the United States and runs programs across South Sudan and the broader African continent.
