Children of the Nile Launches Its Mission to Empower Youth Through Basketball

April 19, 2026

Children of the Nile officially launches its mission to empower underprivileged youth in South Sudan through basketball, mentorship, and opportunity—using sport as a pathway to growth, unity, and hope.

Juba, South Sudan — Children of the Nile is proud to officially announce the launch of its mission to empower underprivileged youth in South Sudan through basketball, mentorship, and opportunity.

Founded by college basketball player Mabilmawut Kon Mabil, the organization was born from a deeply personal journey—beginning in a refugee camp and evolving into a global basketball pathway that now fuels a commitment to give back to the next generation.

Children of the Nile uses basketball as a tool for development, discipline, and unity. Through access to essential equipment, structured training, mentorship, and educational support, the organization aims to create meaningful opportunities for young people who lack access to basic resources.

“Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not,” said Mabil. “Children of the Nile exists to bridge that gap and help young people believe in what’s possible—on and off the court.”

Guided by the philosophy of Ubuntu—‘I am because we are’, Children of the Nile is rooted in the belief that individual success is deeply connected to the strength of the community. In a nation shaped by resilience and recovery, the organization seeks to use basketball as a unifying force that inspires leadership, confidence, and hope.

This launch marks the beginning of a long-term vision to build sustainable programs that empower youth not only as athletes, but as students, leaders, and agents of positive change.

More updates, programs, and community initiatives will be shared in the coming months.
